First Aid at Work Level 3 in Southend, Essex

It is a requirement of Health and Safety law that employers should provide a safe and healthy environment for their employees to work. If your First Aid Needs Assessment highlights that personnel should be trained to a high standard then this 3-day course will meet your needs. HSE Requirements

Description: This comprehensive three-day course covers a wide range of First Aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with an emergency situation with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way. This course will give the participants a qualification to the highest level of First Aid, meeting the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 (effective from 1st October 2009).

 

Duration: A minimum of 18 contact hours split across 3 days, this course can be completed as 100% classroom based or Blended with day 1 of the course being completed online and then day 2 and 3 in the classroom. Both classroom and Blended courses meet the requirements of the HSE with the Blended option designed to cut down on time spent away from the work environment.

Syllabus:This course covers a wide range of First Aid emergencies including:

  • Legalities, responsibilities and reporting
  • Assessment of the situation including scene safety
  • Dealing with an unconscious, breathing casualty
  • Heart Attack and Cardiac Arrest
  • Resuscitation (CPR) including use of the AED
  • Shock (including anaphylaxis)
  • Head, Eye and Chest Injuries
  • Serious Bleeding including bleeding control and bandaging
  • Burns
  • Seizures and Epilepsy
  • Choking
  • Diabetes
  • Angina
  • Stroke
  • Fractures, Dislocations and soft tissue injury (sprains and strains)
  • Poisoning
  • Spinal Injury
  • Illness Assessment
  • Asthma and Hyperventilation

If you have any specific requirements that are not covered on the syllabus, simply let us know and we can cover these as well by extending the duration of the course accordingly.

 

Certification: Subject to assessment throughout the course by your instructor, participants will be issued a First Aid at Work certificate and a wallet card approved by the Health and Safety Executive. This qualification is valid for three years and can be renewed by attending a suitable two-day Requalification course. The HSE strongly recommends that all First Aiders attend an Annual Refresher programme for a minimum of three hours.

 

Assessment: There is no formal assessment. However all students will be assessed throughout the course by the instructor on their ability to act safely, promptly and effectively for all subjects covered throughout the course.
