First Aid at Work Requalification in Southend, Essex

This 2-day course is for First Aiders who have previously completed the First Aid at Work course and need to re-certify. In order to qualify for this course all delegates must hold a valid First Aid at Work certificate which will need to be produced on or before the start of the course. An expired First Aid at Work certficate can only be used if the expiry date is less than 28 days past.

 

Description: This comprehensive two-day course covers a wide range of First Aid emergencies, enabling participants to deal with an emergency situation with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way. In addition to this, should there have been any change to protocols since their initial qualification, this will be updated.

 

This course will give the participants a qualification to the highest level of First Aid, meeting the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (1981).

 

Duration:  A minimum of 12 hours split across 2 days, this course can now be completed either as 100% in the classroom or Blended with day 1 being completed online and then day 2 in the classroom. Both classroom and blended option meet the requirements of the HSE with the blended option designed to cut down on the time spent away from the work environment.

 

 

Syllabus: A wide range of subjects are covered including:

  • Legalities, responsibilities and reporting
  • Assessment of the situation including scene safety
  • Dealing with an unconscious, breathing casualty
  • Heart Attack and Cardiac Arrest
  • Resuscitation (CPR) including use of the AED
  • Shock (including anaphylaxis)
  • Head, Eye and Chest Injuries
  • Serious Bleeding including bleeding control and bandaging
  • Burns
  • Seizures and Epilepsy
  • Choking
  • Diabetes
  • Angina
  • Stroke
  • Fractures, Dislocations and soft tissue injury (sprains and strains)
  • Poisoning
  • Spinal Injury
  • Illness Assessment
  • Asthma and Hyperventilation

 

Certification: Subject to assessment throughout the course by your instructor, participants will be issued a First Aid at Work certificate and a wallet card approved by the Health and Safety Executive. This qualification is valid for three years and can be renewed by attending a suitable two-day Requalification course. The HSE strongly recommends that all First Aiders attend an Annual Refresher programme for a minimum of three hours.

 

Assessment: There is no formal assessment.  However all students will be assessed throughout the course by the instructor on their ability to act safely, promptly and effectively for all subjects covered throughout the course.
